The Gateway to Industry Schools Program (GISP) for Manufacturing and Engineering partnered with TAFE Queensland and industry legend, Chris Conway Lamb from Fabrik CNC to offer this unique STEAM teacher professional development opportunity.

In the manufacturing sector, programming and use of a computer numerical control (CNC) routers and milling machines is common practice.

Used for cutting various hard materials such as wood, composites, aluminium, steel, plastics and foams. CNC routers reduce waste and increase productivity, producing various items in a much shorter amount of time than using other machines. This teacher professional development opportunity gave an overview of CNC machines commonly used in industry, safe work practices, basic machines found in most schools and cover some high end equipment and it’s uses. Teachers also learnt about industry advancements as we enter the forth industrial revolution (industry 4.0). Teachers discussed ideas, issues and concerns experienced in the classroom. Engineers from industry shared their knowledge on the day.

The event contributed to teachers professional learning requirements. A certificate of attendance was issued.
